The second type of thesis is a long, investigation-based text composed by an undergraduate or graduate student as the culminating project of his/her degree. This type of thesis is known as a "senior thesis" when it's composed by an undergraduate senior, and as a "master's thesis" or "doctoral thesis" when composed by a master's or doctorate student. Though drastically different, these two types of writing are both very challenging in their own ways, and often require learners to seek various types of assistance, or thesis support. Luckily, thesis support is readily available from a variety of individuals, institutions, and organizations.
Sometimes, students are hesitant to enlist the help of others when they're struggling with their writing, fearing that by following others' advice they may be inadvertently plagiarizing. Students should know that unless they're taking others' ideas and representing them as their own, they aren't plagiarizing, and that seeking thesis support or other writing help from outside sources is perfectly fine so long as the source of support isn't writing the student's thesis for him. Thesis support is defined as professional assistance with various aspects of thesis writing; it's not defined by a professional writer completing a thesis for a student. A pupil is receiving thesis support, for instance, when he/she talks to his/her professor about ways to refine his/her thesis statement or enlists an online writing service to tutor his/her in thesis composition.
One of the best sources of thesis support is a student's professor. Because professors assign the reports for which students must write theses, they're often intimately aware not only of the subject on which the student is writing, but also of the conventions of writing in the particular discipline in which the thesis paper is being composed. It is good practice to seek thesis approval before beginning a draft. This simply means contacting the professor to ask for feedback on the preliminary thesis. This can often lead to effective revisions, and also helps to ensure that the student is on the right track before he/she begins his/her assignment.
University writing centers are also excellent source of thesis support. Writing centers are staffed by graduate students and other advanced writers who have studied and excelled in various aspects of writing. Writing consultants can help a student revise and refine his/her theses so that they're focused and accurately reflective of the student's thoughts.
Thesis support is also available online. There are a variety of writing assistance services that, for a fee, will tutor students individually via email or electronic chat. These services aim to provide one-on-one, tailored guidance on thesis writing, and are typically staffed to provide assistance with thesis writing at all academic levels.
A student thesis is a work that a student creates as part of a high school, undergraduate, or graduate school program. Therefore, student theses are usually assigned once per course, per semester, or only once as part of an academic program.
There are many different ways in which a professor or academic program will use student theses assignments. A student may also have to create a thesis for each course that he/she is taking.
A graduate student thesis has its own definition and set of requirements. In most cases, a graduate thesis is one document that a student works on for a large portion of the graduate program, especially in his/her final months of the program. This thesis requires a huge amount of research and may even be ground-breaking for a particular industry. Students will then have to defend their student theses in front of a panel of judges that are familiar with the subject matter. These panel members may ask the student questions related to his/her research or to the thesis itself. This sort of graduate thesis is also often called a graduate school reference project.
While there are many definitions and uses for student theses, the basic writing elements are the same. Therefore, learners should always research a particular subject and write the academic document with an introduction, body, conclusion, resources, and appendices.
When a student has to complete a thesis, there's a certain thesis template that he/she should follow. Students may be given thesis templates by their professors, if there professors have certain sections that professors want students to include, such as acknowledgements, references, and appendixes. However, if a professor doesn't give students a thesis template to follow, then students should follow a standard and universal template.
First, before a student can be sure that he/she is using the correct thesis template, he/she should be sure that he/she is using the correct template for the right kind of thesis document. The term "thesis" may refer to a variety of different types of academic documents. However, in the strictest sense of the word, a thesis refers to a long project that a student writes as part of his/her graduate degree program.
If a student isn't given a thesis template by a professor, he/she has to use a standard universal template. In any thesis document, the student should begin with a cover page, which includes the student's name, the title, the date, and the advisor's name. Different style guides will require different things to be included on the cover page. Therefore, learners should always refer to a style guide for more direction. The style guide will usually be either MLA or APA format.
Next, most thesis templates require that students include a table of contents, acknowledgements, and an abstract as the first part. The body of the document should contain an introductory section in which the student defines terms, shares background information about the topic, includes a thesis statement, and describes the methodology that he/she will use during the research process.
The body of the document template should also include separate sections and paragraphs that each contain specific information about the topic. The body of the paragraph should support the thesis statement and work towards the conclusion. The conclusion of the thesis is the last part of the body and pulls together all of the information and ideas.
Most thesis templates also include a section for the references, footnotes, and appendixes. These sections should appear after the body.
A thesis template is very different from a template for any other type of academic document, including any essay, short research paper, or story review. Theses are long research papers, in a sense, that help learners to convey new information and ideas. Therefore, thesis templates should allow students to organize large amounts of information in a manner that's easy to read and understand.
Students must pay very careful attention to every thesis page. After all, a thesis is a very long project that requires students to not only research one particular topic in depth, but it also is often the document that will determine whether or not a student will graduate from a masters degree program. Therefore, each thesis page should be treated with care and attention.
The first step to writing good thesis pages is to read over the guidelines that are provided by a professor or advisor. These guidelines may provide general information about how to write a thesis. They may also provide specific information about thesis requirements for a particular university or professor.
Students need to research their topic in depth. Often, to research a single topic, learners will need to dedicate months or weeks into performing primary source interviews, secondary source research, experiments, and more. Each thesis page will require a wealth of unique information that can only be obtained via thorough research.
After students have researched their topic and developed an outline, they can begin to actually write their thesis pages. Each thesis page should correspond to sections in the outline, which will help to provide format and structure. Also, whenever a student references a source, he/she should include a mention of that resource on the thesis page itself, as well as in a thesis references section.

How do you about writing a thesis introduction? Is there a way to do it to ensure that you put across the message more effectively? This article discusses one of the ways to make the introduction a logical explanation of the contents of a thesis. Writing the introduction follows a deductive approach. Read on how the general to specific method works.
My previous tip on how to write the introduction explained the importance of and provided an example of how to write a good hook. A good hook prompts the readers to go on and read the thesis. This time, I will detail another feature of a good thesis introduction that works well with the hook, that is, writing from general to specific.
Writing a Thesis Introduction: General to Specific
Many seasoned writers or researchers adopts writing from general to specific as the way to go. Although this may seem common sense to those who write a lot and who have a way with words, professors or mentors need to guide their students or mentees. Mentoring provides at least the basic skills required for better composition.
If you are a student just finding your way in the scientific world for the first time by engaging yourself in thesis writing, writing a thesis introduction is quite a challenge. If you believe this is so, then you must go on and read my attempt to clarify this approach more fully.
The Inverted Pyramid Approach to Writing a Thesis Introduction
Let me illustrate the deductive writing method using an illustration to guide your thinking. I call this the inverted pyramid of writing a thesis introduction. It follows the general to the specific approach.
I figured out the situation in class while evaluating students’ interpretation of the inverted pyramid writing method. Incisively looking into draft compositions submitted to me, I thought that the concept at best gives just a gist or the tip of the iceberg. Many students find themselves at a loss on how to do it. Concept wise, it’s easy to understand, but applying it is another thing. There is a need to explain the idea further to make it more systematic.
So here it is. I will make the inverted pyramid or general to specific writing approach more detailed and doable. I present below my inverted pyramid concept.
As you will see in Figure 1 at right, there are three stages to be considered as you write from general to the specific concerns of the phenomenon.
Three Stages of the Inverted Pyramid Approach
First, there should be a contextualization of the situation or phenomenon. Contextualization provides details about the phenomenon being investigated or researched on. A simple way to do this is by applying the 5Ws and 1H technical writing approach. You will not miss important details using that method as you address the What, When, Where, Who, Why, and How questions. Make it as brief as you can.
You should do some conceptualization based on the issue or concern at hand that you have introduced in the contextualization stage. Conceptualization is a product of reflective and analytical thinking. And thinking is best done when you have gained a lot of experience about the phenomenon you are trying to understand. The primary purpose at this stage is to point out the gap in knowledge about the event in question.
Further, notice that as you figure out the specific items in your study, there are many unknowns. Realize the limits of the mind. Many questions start to crop up in your head. There are many other important things to know.
The following questions can help clarify issues:

- What things are already known about the phenomenon?
- Where will I get more information about the phenomenon?
- How will I ensure that I am not duplicating another person’s work?
- Have I read enough?
- Do I have enough experience to say I am already thoroughly familiar with the subject?
Now, how will you go about this quandary? If you are asking some of these questions, this just means that you are not yet well-informed about your subject of inquiry. This situation requires more readings or a thorough review of literature.
Thus, it makes sense that many veteran researchers prefer or opt to write the introduction later, after a thorough review of the literature. Some researchers even defer writing the introduction at the end of the study.
It is during the conceptualization stage that you attempt to explain the phenomenon by presenting your hypothesis – your thesis or main argument. The hypothesis reflects what you believe is the best explanation of the phenomenon based on what you have read so far and your own reflective, analytic thinking.
Thus, the hypothesis is called an “educated guess.” It is here where theories as explanations of phenomenon come into play. You will need to be familiar with what plausible explanations there are available that you might want to adopt or modify.
The last stage is an attempt at resolution, meaning, after formulating your hypothesis to explain the phenomenon. How will you go about it?
Now comes the point where you will ask the research questions that will serve as your guide in verifying your hypothesis. You must then present a systematic approach to testing your hypothesis – the method, which you will write in a separate chapter.
Now, I do hope that writing a thesis introduction is no longer an issue. You can now write with greater confidence. Develop your style.
